Ken McKay, General Manager

Until recently, Ken was the Tennis Director at the Woodlake Swim and Racquet Club for 18 years. Part of his career was at Mt. Auburn Club, one of the largest tennis clubs in New England for 11 years. He also ran offense and defense tennis camps in Milton, Massachusetts with 144 campers weekly, while supervising 44 tennis instructors. He has taught many ranked juniors and specializes in adult lessons.

Ken graduated from the University of Maryland where he played his college career and earned a BA in business and a minor in economics. Ken’s vision is to grow the game of tennis at all levels and for all ages at MTC. He encourages participation, socialization, the spirit of competition, and the love of the sport with his personal touch – The McKay Way.

His teaching philosophy is based on positive motivation; Ken believes that success is always possible in an environment that is fun and energetic. His methods focus on incremental improvement through one workout at a time.

Ken serves as a coach, trainer, and mentor to our junior players, demonstrating sportsmanship and the essence of fair play. The lessons learned by the junior players are not limited to just swinging a racquet!

Lynn Bybee, Head Tennis Professional

Lynn is passionate about the game of tennis and has an extensive background in all phases of the game with a major focus on technique, strategy, tactics and improving your game. He enjoys teaching beginners to elite players and helping each player develop to their full potential no matter what their level of play is. Many of his students achieved national rankings and went on to play college tennis.

Lynn joins us from Midlothian Athletic Club where he was a pro for 7 years. Previously, he was Tennis Director at Willow Oaks Country Club for 10 years. He also directed the tennis program at Oakwood County Club in Lynchburg and was the Head Pro at Army Navy Country Club in Arlington. He is also an accomplished player. Some of his past rankings include: #1 in the Mid-Atlantic in the Men's Open, and #4 in the U.S. and #46 in the world in the 35 and over age division. He qualified twice for the senior tour which included McEnroe, Borg and Connors.

Lynn is a certified Elite Pro by the USPTA. Other certifications include: USTA High Performance Coaching, USTA Sport Science, 10 and Under Tennis, and Clay Court Maintenance. Lynn is looking forward to his new position and meeting everyone at Midlothian Tennis Club.

Rick Gibson, Asst. Tennis Professional

We are pleased to have Rick back with us! He has passed all qualifications for USTTA Professional Recreation Coach. Rick was raised in Clarksville, TN and later attended college at UT, Austin where he pursued business.

Rick taught tennis in the Portsmouth high school system for 2 years before becoming the teaching pro at at Kempsville Recreation Center and then on to Virginia Beach Tennis and Racquet Club. In addition to his instructional expertise, Rick was named both the district and regional champion at USTA level 4.5 for 2 years running.

Rick has taught under previous management at MTC and has also owned his own painting and remodeling business for the past 15-20 years He is now happy to be reunited with the MTC tennis family! Rick has considerable experience working with juniors but is also well received by our more senior members as well. Please welcome Rick!
